JARREAU WILLIAMS ROCKS A MENTAL THRILLER WITH “FEAR”
Washington, DC - Jason Voorhies. The mysterious, immortal, hockey-masked enigma we’ve seen time and time again terrorize visitors at Camp Crystal Lake. No matter how fast you run (and fall), he always seems to catch up. And then, its too late. This Friday the 13th, however, a different terror is coming. Award-winning DMV artist Jarreau Williams, releases his latest single, “FEAR”.
The inspiration for “FEAR” came from Jarreau’s dark journey with mental health. An active advocate on social media, Williams is unafraid to share his personal experiences with depression and therapy; hoping it will inspire others to open up and seek help. “The past couple of years have been filled with severe challenges. Thoughts I couldn’t fully understand. I went back and forth questioning if I was fearful of failure or success. I started seeing a therapist to help process my emotions. Then I thought… what if fear was a person?” Williams went on to write from the perspective of the antagonistic villain we all seek to overcome. “To understand what scares us means being honest with ourselves. Its hard to admit when you’ve made mistakes, or self sabotaged, but that’s a part of being human. We must embrace that.”
“FEAR” is a self reflective, electric, analytic composition of Pop, Rock, and R&B inspired by Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and Rob Zombie’s “Living Dead Girl”. Williams’ vocals display range and energy as the track builds to a dramatic finish. The lyrics resemble vibes similar to your favorite horror flick or psychological thriller; capturing the eerie, lurking presence fear and anxiety present.
I am the demon, the nightmare, that’s living in your sheets
I’m the villain, a killer, of everything so sweet
Creep down on one knee, look below and you’ll find me
My name is FEAR, and dreams are what I eat
Nashville-based producer Devin Spear (Exhale Recording) reunited with Williams on the track. This is their fourth collaboration and first since the Wammie award winning song “Starting Over” (Best Pop Song, 2022) with DMV artist Stephanie Mathias. This tandem always has the potential to create something special when they link up. “I started working with Devin in 2017… when I knew next to nothing about studio recording. He’s helped me overcome so many fears with that process. We’ve seen each evolve as artists and humans.” Williams continues, “Our sessions are always productive, constructive, and both of us leave feeling like the spark has been lit. I always trust him to help me carry out my vision for every song we create.”
The 5x Wammie Award winner and 2x Telly Award winner has created a lane for himself in the Pop/R&B/Hip-Hop realm as one of the DMV’s brightest stars. “Fear” is available on all platforms on Friday, October 13th.
